MONTREAL

Often compared to New York City, Montreal is one of the most exciting cities in North America, with three million residents, four universities, and a laid-back, easygoing atmosphere. Simultaneously boasting Old World charm, modern style and cosmopolitan flair, Montreal has something for everyone. A bilingual city in both theory and practice, Montrealers possess the unique ability to seamlessly switch between Canada's two official languages. However, Montreal's ethnic diversity is not limited to English and French.

The Montreal Island in St. Lawrence River is home to thousands of immigrants from around the globe who have chosen to remain true to their cultural and linguistic roots. Here you can explore a multicultural tapestry where North America embraces European, Middle-Eastern, Asian, Caribbean and South American cultures, retaining the very best of their cuisine, arts, music and traditions. A true appreciation for all things cultured is part of what makes this city so unique.

While you are here, why not take a stroll through one of Montreal's lush parks, bohemian neighborhoods or colorful markets. Sip a café au lait, or La Fin du Monde ('The End of the World', one of Quebec's many delicious local brews) on an outdoor terrasse. Step back in time down at the Old Port, or take in the city from the look-out atop of Mount Royal, with 232 m the city's highest point right in the center of Montreal.
